Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract – 4-5 Months)

Perth, WA
 
Silverstone is currently representing a well-established client in the mining and heavy equipment sector, seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support their workshop operations on a short-term contract.
This is a hands-on role working with a busy internal design team, focused on the design, fabrication, and refurbishment of fixed plant and mobile equipment attachments. You will be involved across the full design lifecycle, working closely with both engineering and workshop teams.
 
Key Responsibilities
-Design and produce detailed manufacturing packages including drawings and DXF files in line with project scope, budget and timelines
– Carry out scanning and measurement of large mining equipment to support design and refurbishment work
– Identify structural failures and perform calculations and analysis to support engineering solutions
– Work collaboratively with engineers, designers and trades to meet project and safety requirements
– Provide technical support to workshop and operations teams during fabrication and rebuild processes
– Ensure all drawings and designs comply with Australian standards and relevant regulations
– Deliver end-to-end design work from concept through to as-built documentation
– Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in all outputs
 
About You
– Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or relevant trade background
– Strong experience in 3D modelling and drafting using Autodesk Inventor or similar
– Proven experience within mining, heavy equipment or fabrication environments
– Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles and workshop processes
– Strong communication skills and ability to work within a team environment
